Frederick Alvin (Al) Macatavish has a history of dedicated service to golf not only in Manitoba but also on the national and international golf scene.
He has been a member of Elmhurst Golf and Country Club since 1964 and was on the club’s Board of Directors from 1967 to 1979, including a term as president in 1976-77. He is co-chair of the Elmhurst master plan restoration committee.
Provincially, he was Elmhurst representative to the Manitoba Golf Association in 1978-79 and a member of the MGA Board of Directors from 1980 to 1988, including a term as president in 1985 and past president 1986 to 1988. He was the non-playing captain for Manitoba’s 1983 junior men’s team and the 1985 Willingdon Cup Team.
Al has been a member of the Royal Canadian Golf Association Board from 1987 to the present, serving in many capacities including a term as national president in 1997. He was appointed as an Honorary Life Governor in 2000 and has been active on the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame selection committee since 2000.
He served as Canada’s delegate to the World Golf Council from 1997 to 2000 and has served as a rules official at international events on four continents in addition to many appearances as a rules official at events across Canada and in Manitoba.
He is an inductee into the Manitoba Golf Hall of Fame and Museum inc., September 25, 2006.
